Covid-19: more dangerous than flu!
Corona critics downplay the novel Corona virus and call on citizens to sign petitions against the protective measures. The aim is to keep the mortality rate low or to lower it.
Again and again you meet people who believe that the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is harmless and not worse than an ordinary flu disease. In view of the current situation, which is health, economic and social burdensome for many people, these statements are often misunderstood.
Among the critics of Corona and the measures taken by the federal government are nationwide well-known doctors like Wolfgang Wodarg. This receives political backing, for example from the former CDU member of parliament Bundestag Vera Lengsfeld, who called on Twitter to sign a petition to override all measures against the current pandemic. She wrote: “The current flu wave caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus is proven to be less dangerous than other flu waves, which can be seen, for example, from the number of cases that the Robert Koch Institute publishes daily. Accordingly, on March 25, 2020 the number of infected was 31,554 and the number of deaths was 149. "
Experts see it critically that Vera Lengsfeld not only makes factual errors in her statement, because the corona virus is called SARS-CoV-2 and the resulting disease COVID-19. In addition, a pandemic that has just started cannot be compared to a completed flu wave. It is not foreseeable how the rapidly increasing numbers around the world will develop in a few months and what role the protective measures taken play in this. The Spanish flu, which was rampant in 1918 and 1919, is a good example of the fact that isolation and death rates were reduced by up to 50 percent through isolation measures.
In a global comparison, the death rate in Germany is very low, which is also due to the high medical expertise in intensive care medicine and the good care of the sick. It is essential not to overload the health care system in order to continue to ensure high-quality care for patients in order to avoid death rates in this country, such as those in Italy, which are significantly higher.
Experts emphasize that the aim is not to scare people, but to find a way in which as many people as possible can get out of the crisis unscathed. However, you are cautioned not to take the virus and its effects lightly, as it is highly contagious and, unlike the flu, there are no basic immunities or vaccinations.
