FIBROMYALGIA - THE MYSTICAL SUFFERING
Unspecific pain, long suffering - the diagnosis is often lengthy and difficult. But individual therapy can provide relief.
Renate L. has a real medical marathon behind her. From their youth onwards, they have been suffering from severe pain, which made it impossible to take part in physical education classes. She often felt marginalized. Over time, she took the pain for granted, got married and had children. The pain faded into the background, other things were more important and it had to work.
Unspecific pain all over the body, which feels like sore muscles, every movement hurts, some areas may not be touched at all - but you cannot see anything. After an odyssey, the diagnosis was finally made: fibromyalgia. This syndrome can be very stressful and is not considered curable. With the right measures, however, many people affected can largely maintain a good quality of life.
Fibromyalgia can be literally translated as fiber muscle pain. Sleep problems and physical and mental exhaustion are common. Sufferers like Renate L. complain of pulling, burning parts of the body, especially on the back, in the hips and along the extremities. The complaints also increasingly occur near the joints, but do not affect the joints themselves. Finger pressure can often cause significant pressure pain in certain areas and the muscles are prone to pain-related tension. The symptoms can vary, but often persist for months or emerge repeatedly.
It often happens that sufferers live for a longer period of time with the assumption that their pain and discomfort are nothing more than imagination or have a psychosomatic, since no other recognizable reason for the described ailments can be found. In fact, the diagnosis is usually difficult due to the diverse and unspecific symptoms and possible differential diagnoses and requires a thorough analysis. It is important to always take fibromyalgia syndrome into account.
The possible forms of therapy - drug or not - show different efficacies and should be discussed with the patient. The individually prepared therapy plan is checked regularly and adjusted if necessary in order to achieve the best possible relief from the symptoms in order to improve the quality of life. It is also advisable to exchange experiences with other affected people, for example in self-help groups.
